Past Grants Awarded

In the 8th - 9th grade program, JYPI's original series of seminars, approximately 25 teens allocate some $25,000 to nonprofit organizations.  Each teen contributes $500 which is then matched by JYPI and pooled together, enabling such substantial donations.  Teens visit or hear reports from local, national and international organizations. Afterward, they review written grant proposals before making their funding decisions.  Teens are given the opportunity to nominate additional organizations as well.

In the 10th - 12th grade program, older teens meet over the course of four months to allocate some $10,000 to nonprofit organizations.  Teens contribute $200 each which is then matched by JYPI and pooled together.  Initiated in the Spring of 2003, two separate programs are run: one serving Northern VA, and one for Maryland and D.C.

The JYPI Alumni program has been developed to continue engaging JYPI participants in acts of tikkun olam (repairing the wolrd).  The Youth Incentive Grants provide opportunities for JYPI teens to encourage local Jewish youth groups and religious schools to carry out their own community service programming.  Groups propose projects that interest them and JYPI teens review and ultimately fund these proposed projects (up to $300).
